I bought Elizabeth while at AGPNY in July. (Shhhh! She's DD's Christmas gift.)

Since all had to be done in secret, I paid for her in person and had her shipped home. I was shocked when I opened the box, as her eyes were 'asymetrical' and one was larger than the other. Called AG, even though bought in NY, send to returns. (They were very nice, as always, and apologetic.) Well, my new Elizabeth arrived yesterday. I just opened the box. This one isn't like the other one, but I notice her left eye has a little more white than the other. I guess one wouldn't notice it like do. I went and checked Nellie (last year's Christmas gift, LOL)since she has the same face mold, and her eyes are perfect.

Sigh. I don't know what to do. It's time-consuming having to return it again (I have to be secretive) and I wonder if the people in the returns department will see what I see. ('What does this woman WANT from us?!') LOL!

All of our AG's have been perfect, and I wonder if I should just let it go, and accept it as part of her 'character'? As said, maybe I'm being too picky. I hate to run the risk of them sending another one who's not right, or maybe the next one WOULD be right. Oh, decisions, decisions. Thanks!

No, you're definately not too picky!

American girl dolls are suppose to be of the best quality. If you're doll has a defect, even the slightest, they have no problem in giving you a new one.

I say you should return her, get your money back, and if you're local go and pick an elizabeth out for yourself. (=
If not, then I say try, try again.

I would return her too, I mean you are paying over $80!!

My Elizabeth was less than perfect when I got her too, her wig was ever so slightly cocked off to one side. I told myself that I would wait over night before I decided if I was going to send her back in, and in that time I had her out of the box, looked at her clothes.. tried to readjust her style so that the crooked wig didnt show so much.. . and wouldnt you know it I bonded with her and didnt have the heart to send her back in.

She wasnt that bad and at the time there were lots of people on the board having problems with their Elizabeth's, and the replacements they received after they sent her back in. So I decided to keep my Elizabeth because her defectively glued wig wasnt so noticable.

But two differently sized eyes... or eyes that are not the same color, that is a big problem and not one that you could adjust yourself. I'd send her back and have a perfect Lizzy for your daughter to enjoy.

No, you are not being picky! They do not make the same quality stuff on anything you buy nowadays compared to in the past... you have to inspect everything you buy now for flaws and defects! You are spending enough on the doll, if your not happy, send her back until you get one you like!

Maybe you could call customer service, and ask for a personal shopper to hand-pick a really nice Elizabeth for your DD. If you explain your past difficulties, they should be happy to do it; I've heard really good things about their customer service on this board. Good luck!

I don't think you're too picky. If we accept sub-quality items, that's what will get produced. I think I'll go home and check out my Bitsy one more time a bit more thoroughly - it sure seems as though a lot of people are having a lot of problems with this one.

I like the idea of calling and having a PS hand-pick one for me. It would save much hassle too, if I could just send this Elizabeth to AGPNY w/a letter of explanation. Does anyone know if they'll take this return in the mail? I'm afraid of having the same problem again if I have to go through the returns department.

Thanks!

I think you had better call them first.
At the least, get your package insured and get delivery confirmation.

I don't think you are being too picky. You paid a lot for the doll and for that price she should be perfect. My first Elizabeth came with green on her face from the book rubbing her. The second came oddly stuffed with a wig that was odd and pin curls that were frizzy and one of them was laying loose in the box. The third arrived and she is perfectly fine. If you call customer service they can also make a note on your order for the doll to be carefully checked without your having to send it to New York or have a personal shopper hand pick one.
